Cleanliness Drive Organised at GDC Pampore in view of Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations
On October 3, 2024, the NSS Unit of Government Degree College Pampore in connection with celebration of Gandhi Jayanti organized a campus cleanliness drive and a rally on the theme of “Peace and Non-Violence”. The event was held under the able patronage of the Principal of the college, Prof. Saffiya Khalil, who played a pivotal role in encouraging the students and staff to actively participate in the celebration. The event commenced with a rally that aimed to spread awareness about the importance of peace and non-violence in society, as taught by Mahatma Gandhi. The rally witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers, who carried placards with messages of harmony, peace, unity, and the power of non-violent resistance.The rally was conducted within and outside the college campus. Students raised slogans promoting peace, unity, and the Gandhian philosophy of “Ahimsa” (non-violence). The purpose of the rally was to remind the community about the relevance of Gandhian values in today’s world, especially in addressing social, political, and environmental challenges. At the conclusion of the rally Principal Prof. Saffiya Khalil addressed the audience. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings in fostering a peaceful and harmonious society. She highlighted how non-violence is not just a principle for social movements, but a way of life that promotes understanding, tolerance, and empathy. Rally was followed by a Mega Campus cleanliness drive as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s commitment to cleanliness and sanitation. Armed with gloves, brooms, and dustbins, the NSS volunteers, along with faculty members, embarked on a mission to clean every corner of the college campus. They cleaned lawns and common areas, collecting waste and segregating it into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories. The cleanliness drive aimed to instill a sense of responsibility among students towards their environment. The rally and the cleanliness drive were both significant in promoting the Gandhian values of peace, non-violence, and cleanliness. The active participation of students and staff made the event successful, and it left a lasting impact on the participants and the community. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the NSS Programme Officer Prof.Kasira, expressing gratitude to all the participants, staff, and the Principal for their support and contribution to the success of the programme.
