Celebration of World Aids Day 2024
College Red Ribbon Club Observing World AIDS Day 4th December -7th December 2024 Under the able guidance of the college principal Prof. Saffiya Khalil, the college Red Ribbon Club organized a series of activities to observe World AIDS Day from 4th December to 7th December, 2024.Every year, December 1st is globally recognized as World AIDS Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and honoring those who have been affected by the disease. The theme for World AIDS Day 2024 was “Take the Right Path,” emphasizing the importance of making informed, responsible decisions in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The activities aimed to engage students and faculty, foster awareness, and promote solidarity against the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. Walkathon The event started on 4th December in college playground where students from different semesters assembled together. The principal of the college briefed the students about the causes and implications of AIDS. The students then came together for a Walkathon which involved staff, and the entire college community to walk together for a common cause: spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS. The walkathon not only raised awareness but also emphasized the significance of collective responsibility in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS. It successfully brought attention to the urgent need for education on HIV prevention and eradication of stigma, and highlighted the role of individuals in the fight against the virus. Connecting through a Human Chain The second activity was the formation of a Human Chain which took place on the same day, December 4th, 2024. The Human Chain served as a powerful visual symbol of unity and solidarity in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. Students, faculty members, and staff gathered to form a human chain, standing hand-in-hand in a united front against the stigma and discrimination that people living with HIV/AIDS often face.This activity was aimed at showcasing the commitment of the college community towards creating a world free from AIDS-related stigma and discrimination. By forming a human chain, participants sent a strong message that they are ready to stand together in support of those affected by the virus, advocating for equal rights, and promoting inclusive, non-discriminatory societies. The human chain was an inspiring reminder of the collective strength that lies in unity and collective action. Painting/Poster-Making Competition Although this activity took place on December 7th, it was an integral part of the college’s efforts to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. The Painting/Poster-Making Competition provided a creative platform for students to express their understanding and interpretation of the theme “Take the Right Path” through visual art. Students were encouraged to showcase their artistic talent while conveying important messages about HIV prevention, safe practices, and combating stigma. The competition attracted a large number of participants, and the entries varied from thought provoking posters to vibrant paintings, each delivering powerful messages. Through their artworks, students highlighted the importance of making the right choices in life and taking a proactive stance in promoting awareness about HIV/AIDS. The winners of the competition received certificates of appreciation. The College Red Ribbon Club’s observance of World AIDS Day through these various activities was an effective and impactful initiative. The theme “Take the Right Path” was communicated through multiple channels, helping to spread knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS prevention and the importance of eliminating stigma. The events not only contributed to the global conversation on HIV/AIDS but also provided an opportunity for the college community to unite for a common cause. The success of the activities demonstrated the power of awareness, education, and collective action in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS.
