CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY

REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

ORGANIZED BY G D C PAMPORE ON 8TH OF MARCH 2025

The Women Development Cell of Government Degree College Pampore, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025. Dr. Rukhsaar Syed a Biotechnologist, founder of Khalis Foods and a runner up of Materchef India season 08, Farah Zaide a social development practitioner, Radio and T.V presenter and Ms Andleeb Lone an Advocate Munsif Court Pampore, Shahid Imraan, Editor in Chief Kashmir Crown News were the guest speakers for the occasion. The programme commenced with a formal welcome address by the Principal, Prof. Saffiya Khalil, who warmly welcomed the guests, faculty, and students. In her speech, she emphasized the significance of gender equality, the issue of violence against women, and the contributions of women in shaping the Indian Constitution. She also spoke about the constitutional rights of women and their vital role in societal progress.

Following the welcome address, Prof. Samina Yesvi, Convenor of the Women Development Cell, delivered the keynote address. She highlighted the innate qualities of women and how these attributes contribute to shaping the future of society. She stressed that empowering women should be an everyday practice and encouraged young girls to take leadership roles in every field. A soul touching Naat sharief was presented by Tashif a student from the Department of Music followed by inspiring speech from the revered Guest Speakers.

 Dr. Rukhsaar Syed the first guest speaker, shared her insights on women empowerment and the crucial role of women in supporting each other. She spoke about her own journey and emphasized the importance of a supportive environment in ensuring women's success. Farah Zaide the second speaker, shed light on the rights granted to women in Islam. She highlighted the contributions of renowned Muslim women in different fields and encouraged participants to stand up for their rights. She also discussed infrastructural challenges faced by women, such as inadequate sanitary facilities in educational institutions, and stressed the need for necessary improvements. Ms. Andleeb Lone the third speaker, elaborated on the legal and constitutional rights of women. She spoke about the women at the forefront for protecting women’s rights and urged all females to be aware of their legal rights and fight for them. She encouraged young girls to be independent and confident. Shahid Imran the final speaker, discussed the rights and responsibilities of women in society. He addressed social evils like domestic violence and emphasized the need to combat these injustices. He also spoke about the role of women in building a more just and equitable society.

Following the guest lectures, mementos were presented to all the speakers in appreciation of their valuable contributions. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Shaifta Ayoub, Head Department of English and Prof. Redwan  Nayeem proposed the formal vote of thanks.
